Designs in Wood and String

This is my Indian Chief Headdress.  It is the third time I have done this piece although this one is slightly smaller than the first two.  The image is about 18" high on this one the first 2 were about 24".  THe original was done over 30 years ago and was given away.  The second one was done about 25 years ago and its hangs in my living room.  The first 2 were also done with the feathers colored white.  After I discovered using multi colored layers created more depth, I had to try my "Chief" again.  I think he turned out pretty well.

To the left is a picture of this piece before any stringing was done.  Looks a bit different huh.  Actually, I started working on this piece in my head months before it got to this point.

  I started the actual physical work in December 2007.  This shot at the top of the page was taken at the beginning of March 2008.  It still needs one more thing to complete it.  I'm in the process of making a turquoise necklace for him.  I form chunks from epoxy and then paint them and string the necklace, which will then be added to the piece.  There will be a new picture added when it's completed.

My wife actually filmed me while I was making this piece.  We're going to try to edit it into a short film and possibly get it on Youtube.  If we ever do I'll supply a link if you would like to see how its put together.  Stay tuned.
